Change The Way You Think About Networking

“Networking” is a buzz word. You hear it all the time and you know you should probably do it, but sometimes it seems transactional and kind of a chore.
Stop right there! Once you start thinking about networking as something you must do instead of something you want to do, it’s time to change the way you’re thinking.
Networking is FUN! Okay hear me out… think about the last time you heard or read something really interesting. Maybe it was a fascinating podcast, a historical documentary, or an intriguing autobiography. That amazing feeling of learning something new is exactly the feeling you can look forward to when you talk to a new person.
And guess what? You get to choose who you want to learn more about and build a relationship with. LinkedIn is an amazing place to search for interesting people who are just a “connect” button away from an introduction. Take the time to “add note” and tell them exactly who you are and why you want to build that connection.
Not Convinced? Quick Story Time

A few months ago when I started my new job, I connected with many new colleagues on LinkedIn. Since I just joined the company and I was working remote, I wanted to meet as many people in other departments as possible. I had a great conversation with a colleague who leads the project development services in the Empire State Building.
A few weeks later I was in New York City, and made plans to meet for lunch with my new colleague. Turns out… instead of lunch, we made a trip up to the Empire State Observatory!! It was my first time going to the top and it was absolutely breathtaking.
So, in conclusion, if you network and build relationships with new people, you just might have an unforgettable experience!!
Be Great,
